Eventually Everything Connects
"Eventually, everything connects" is a typographic project in which I undertook the rebranding of a city. Specifically, I centered my focus on London's tube transportation system, recognizing it as one of the most expansive transportation networks globally. The intention behind this project was to enhance the recognition and value of the tube system. To accomplish this, I delved into the essence of typography and skillfully integrated it into my rebranding of London.
To begin my exploration of typography, I delved into studying the tube map. With its seven distinct lines, each color-coded to represent different train services, I discovered that each color held a specific significance. Coming from Singapore, where train networks are comparatively smaller, it was fascinating to witness the extensive nature of London's railway system. Analyzing the lines closely, I observed their bold and thick appearance, despite being closely positioned alongside each other. This distinctiveness made them easily distinguishable from one another. Armed with these unique characteristics, I will now proceed with generating ideas for my poster project.
Sketches
I began by sketching several initial drafts to outline the desired appearance of the posters. Alongside that, my aim was to effectively capture the fast-paced lifestyle of Londoners within the designs. I explored various layouts and experimented with different approaches to seamlessly integrate the tube map into my overall design concept.
Drafts
While translating my conceptual sketches into Illustrator, I integrated the tube map lines into my design. However, I sensed that something was lacking in the composition. In order to enhance the visual impact, I decided to incorporate iconic landmarks of London into the design. This addition brought a new dimension to the artwork and inspired me to explore the possibility of integrating these landmarks within the typography of the poster.
Throughout the creative process, I persisted in experimenting with various compositions and line thicknesses. I encountered a particular challenge when attempting to incorporate curves into the tube design, but I persevered to find a suitable solution. Regarding the London font, I drew inspiration from the bauhaus font style, known for its geometrical attributes. Thus, I made concerted efforts to infuse the letters with geometric elements. As I progressed, I made the decision to include more of the tube lines within my designs, aiming to achieve a closer resemblance to an authentic London tube map.

Final Drafts
In the final iterations of my drafts, I expanded the number of lines and incorporated additional landmarks onto the poster. Yet, I encountered a challenge as the composition started to feel cluttered and lacked symmetry. To achieve a more balanced and harmonious visual arrangement, I proceeded to make further refinements to the poster design.
Final Poster
Following numerous refinements, I had used Photoshop to overlay my design onto various poster mockups, envisioning how it would appear in real life. Through a series of experiments and trial-and-error, I learned the value of patience and the understanding that worthwhile outcomes require time and dedication. The process of creating this typographic poster was undoubtedly meticulous, yet I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Even with my current skill set, I am committed to further refining this project as I continue to grow and enhance my abilities.
