I've been doing Japanese calligraphy since 2007. Having tried various styles I stopped at this one, which is easily read, looks presentable and is applicable wherever, from prints to embroidery (you name it, - posters, stickers, clothes labels for martial arts practitioners, etc.).
These names of traditional Japanese martial arts were first written with brush pen and then traced in Adobe Illustrator.
And finally, a bit of initial sketches (yes, I know, they are on dull grid paper, not on the rice paper, but I needed a very different result from what a rice paper provides). :) Also, I'm attaching a traditional media artwork (made with markers and brush pen) - a portrait of o-sensei (Great Teacher) Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido. I was practicing aikido in my student years and I truly love the philosophy and dynamics of this martial art.
