This project was centred around speculative design. We were tasked with choosing a topic and question, and then constructing a speculative answer to solve the central problem. Throughout this project, I researched editorial design, speculative design, and my central topic. This was compiled within my outcome which is this book, along with a companion broadsheet folding poster.

My speculative project asked the question “If green design is beautiful, will we embrace more sustainable practices?”. There have been many hurdles in the way of wider application of sustainable design, with aesthetics being one of them. I’ve chosen to focus on this issue because it’s a problem designers can tackle, and it’s a topic I’m interested in. Everyone deserves to live in a beautiful environment, with aesthetics directly contributing to positive mental health and safe communities. Green design should become the only kind of design and become synonymous with beauty and aesthetic appeal.
