Nikita Kovalev's profile

The apartment of an IT specialist

The apartment of an IT specialist through the eyes of designers
from the Kovalev & Partners studio.
Design studio Kovalev& Partners transformed 54 square meters of living space in Moscow into an ascetic, but the most stylish and closed open space. Such a small part was put before the founder and art director of the studio Nikita Kovalev by the customer - a specialist, one of the IT companies.

entry
“We entered the project at the concrete stage,”says Nikita Kovalev. “There were no partitions, only the kitchen and the bathroom were marked. The customer immediately warned that he was ready for experiments, and we did everything to hear him.”

The head of Kovalev & Partners says that the idea of this project is entirely woven from the smallest details. “All attention to the nuances,” he says. “They don’t seem to be very noticeable, but if you look closely, even the tubes by the lamps above the bar are painted the same color as the ceiling.”

The founder and artistic director of the studio explains that in this project he wanted to focus on primitive minimalism, adding a pinch of fragrant comeliness and order to it.
“We deliberately left a lot of exposed concrete in the apartment,” Kovalev continue. “The ceiling and some walls were also made of concrete and completely open.”

The Kovalev & Partners team chose an unpredictable color scheme for this apartment: khaki, which is combined with a neutral beige-gray color. “We specially painted even the lamps in it,” emphasizes Kovalev. “In addition, the customer did not have the task of making a separate table, so we decided to install a bar counter with a large work surface.”
bedroom
All the furniture in this apartment, except for the chairs, is made to order, says Nikita Kovalev. According to him, there are several highlights in this project. For example, the floors in the toilet and shower are made of microcement.
Another interesting feature is the glass support of the bar counter. Kovalev recalls how they tested it for strength: they asked a rather well-fed man to dance on it.
“And it withstood,” says Nikita Kovalev, head of Kovalev & Partners, not without pleasure.
