"The Bluebird and Coyote" A Pima story

"THE BLUE BIRD AND COYOTE"
A PIMA STORY
This is a story by the Pima, the river people of Arizona:

The BlueBird was once a very ugly color. Four times every morning the bird would go and bathe in the river as it sang. On the fourth morning it came out of the river with beautiful blue feathers. Seeing all this, the green Coyote followed the bird's example and sang in the water. He came out blue and couldn’t help but admire himself. Too caught up with himself and not watching the road, the Coyote tripped onto the ground and to this day is the color of dirt.
SKETCHING PROCESS
I first started with about 20 1.5X2.25 thumbnails. I then traced and worked on concepts I liked till I had another 40 thumbnails and moved onto 2 roughs. The final drawing uses mixed acrylic inks with paint brushed and calligraphy ink pens.
