The first thing I had to tackle was the cursed alien figurine. It was described as representing an evil alien dictator who masscacred millions of his own people.

Here I began to home in on a design I liked. I thought the absence of a visible mouth seemed quite sinister.

Final figurine design. I had a long look at ceremonial japanese robes to help with this.

My thumbnails for page 1. At this point I like to start thinking about where the speech bubbles might go.

The most important part of a Dredd story is Dredd himslef! Every artist does their own slight variation on the character- here I began to find a version that worked for me.

Final studies before pencilling the page in earnest, deciding on specific poses etc.
