PROJECT
LE RYTHME DE L'HYPERPRODUCTION
(THE RHYTHM OF HYPERPRODUCTION)
2022

@ École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI - Les Ateliers), Paris
BRIEF
The project is a reflection on the future of the mass production of objects, which is at the heart of our contemporary problems and issues, yet it is rarely tackled head-on. The narrative around mass production, crucial in our relationships to objects, is among other things made invisible by the magic of logistics to facilitate the cognitive bias, allowing us to “consume” them without (too much) guilt. Each project proposition would be presented in the form of an exhibition at the end of the semester.

PROPOSITION
Our approach focuses on what is especially distinctive about the term "mass production": its rapidity. We wonder how fast things are produced to fulfil and even exceed the needs of 8 billion people. Abstracted into a dizzying rhythm, the video installation consists of 3 animations depicting the rate of worldwide production of t-shirts, pencils and rolls of toilet paper every minute.

How fast are we producing objects?
This video installation consists of of 3 video animations depicting the rate of worldwide production of t-shirts, pencils and rolls of toilet paper every minute. With each individual product abstracted into a single line, the sound of a metronome beating at 600 bpm (beats per minute) is superimposed on the videos, reinforcing the dizzyingly mechanical nature of the rapid production of these 3 basic consumer goods.
Le Rythme de l'Hyperproduction was exhibited alongside 8 other students' works in a self-curated exhibition at the end of the semester.
