In my Intro to Fashion Technology lab we were instructed to collage or manipulate at least five images together (text could be counted as one image) on an 17X11 file on Photoshop. Once we were done our file would be taken up to the TechStyle Lab and our image would be turned into scarves!
It took me awhile to think about what I actually wanted to do for my scarf. I know I didn't really want to make a collage, I wanted to put together a photo manipulation of some sorts. Then I don't know what happened or what I was doing, I think I was actually looking up quotes or tattoos and the quote from Catching Fire came to my mind, "The sun persists in rising, so I make myself stand." This picture just came to mind, and I knew I wanted to do something involving The Hunger Games. I don't care what anybody says, The Hunger Games is my favorite book series, ever. Well, actually, it's in a tie with Harry Potter.
The hardest part about this project was finding images that were big enough! My biggest fear was ending up with a pixelated looking scarf. I spent hours looking through images that were big enough. Once I actually found images that were big enough and that I thought would look good, putting the scarf together wasn't that hard of a task.
I tried to find brushes of an actual Mockingjay, but it didn't seem to fit with my scarf and I wanted the bird to be in flight so I found these brushes on Deviant Art. I think it works well.
The landscape on the scarf is much darker and more shadowy then it is on the actual file, but I think I like this more.
Overall, I am very happy about this! We got our scarves back on the last day of class and I could not stop staring at it, I was in complete disbelief that this was something I actually made. I was so giddy about it all day. This is by far my favorite project I had to do this semester in any of my classes because it feels so much more tangible. I'm very, very proud about how this came out!
