Tamashi

Crafts
Tamashi is much more than just a doll. It is a project to help all those who unfortunately suffer from fibromyalgia and can not do the simple act of embracing their own children. This work is dedicated to all of them.
In Japanese culture it is believed that all objects have souls . So Tamashi (Soul in Japanese ) is an extension of the soul of the mother. Whenever she couldn't hug her children, they could embrace Tamashi as a substitute.
Tamashi is a stuffed toy that can be customized together to strengthen the maternal bond. It will also be a traveling companion that will give protection and security.
The wabi -sabi aesthetics of the imperfect beauty, the asymmetrical, the rustic simplicity, and intimacy are present throughout the project, as well as the Japanese culture and techniques .
Tamashi is inspired by traditional Japanese dolls Amigurumi, Kokeshi and Momiji.
This project also includes a guide on fibromyalgia written in first person by a person suffering this disease so anyone who reads it can know what living in constant agony is, and an instruction manual which explains the project and an example of way of using the doll. The pakaging has a peculiarity too and it is that the flaps of the box represent the arms and legs of the doll so that the box also hugs the doll.

This project has been selected as a Good Practice 2014 in the International Design for All Foundation Awards 2015.
