In March 2011 we decided to exhibit at The Gadget Show Live 2011 at the Birmingham NEC. The event took place in April, giving us not much time to design a stand and get it made.
I designed the stand around three main focal points for visitors; showing off the amazing Batmobile (which we sold on the site), displaying a mixture of our top selling and new products on a big lightbox stand in the middle, and finally something interactive to draw the crowds in – The Angry Birds Coconut Shy.
This was very much a hands-on project, spending weekends painting and getting quotes to make sure print arrived on time and we exhibited.
We were competing with big electronic brands like Sony, Panasonic and Kodak. But the crowds really were queuing up around our stand so they could have their picture taken by the Batmobile and then play to win an Angry Bird.
We got great coverage on both the TV show and throughout the press and blogs. We were also told by one of the TV show presenters that we were easily in the top 3 stands that year – something that made all the hard work rewarding.
