A Laughing Buddha is the ultimate symbol of happiness, taking away any problem, symbolizing good fortune, wealth in private and career, life fulfillment. Budai is regarded to be an incarnation of the Bodhisattva Maitreya. He is said to have lived around the 10th century in the Wuyue kingdom. He is almost always shown smiling or laughing, hence his nickname in Chinese, the "Laughing Buddha".
