There's no such thing as a recipe for creating a viral, but the challenge was to make one... and we did our best.
But why? The finality was to promote a Facebook page designated for helping people fo find roommates.
The formula? It consisted into picking up a controversial topic in Costa Rica –politics- and the most polemical character by the time, Justo Orozco.
Just for your information: Orozco became the president of the Human Rights Commision of the Legislative Assembly thanks to a pact between the ruling Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN) and conservative minority parties.
This appointment was strongly criticized by opposition parties, the Ombudsman, the Population Association of America and a huge part of the citizens, who raised an intense social media campaign in order to remove Justo from the charge.
This happened because he showed himself as a clear enemy of the LGBT rights, throwing homophobic comments and even asking for the ejection of deputy Carmen Muñoz from this commision, taking as a reason her openly declared homosexuality.
The perfect opportunity
There were both Justo's supporters and opponents. So, the plan was to make a clip that those who hated him would love and those who loved him would hate.
No matter what would be the reaction, the most important thing was something: to make them talk about the video and share it.
The result was titled under the name of "Y si Justo cambia/If Justo changes":
At the end, it invited the people to visit the Facebook page, where they had revelation:
In less than 24 hours the video reached the media and it quickly became viral.
It even reached Justo:
Y si Justo cambia was a one week project, in which the teacher demanded us to achieve at least 200 likes. We gained more than one thousand.
