TZFM201 -Spring Week 3 Project:Natural Dyes

Statement of Intent - Natural Dyes 
The six images will be made in the food genre.  They will illustrate natural colourants that have been extracted from every day foods.  The vegetables, fruit and spices used in the project are commonly available in most homes. 

Historically we have always used natural products to produce colourants for fabrics and decoration, I am interested in what colours we can make at home and would they be clearly identifable.  A colours made from onion skins, beetroot powder, spinach, blueberry, sumac and turmeric will dye sample squares of muslin. 

The construction of the staged images will all be organised in such a way to display the interlocking elements.   By selecting and positioning the subjects onto a plain white background, it is intended that the audience with appreciate the simple elements used. 

The images will be shot overhead, lit by natural window light, defused to reduce shadows. 

Influences and inspiration are, Ernest Haeckel, Phillippa Stanton, Michael Freeman, Lenka Lens, David Luciano. 


The project is for my fellow learners.
