Production Premise
This documentary showcases how Kenya Shipyard Limited is well-positioned to become a leading player in the shipbuilding industry by tapping into the growing blue economy sector.
Brigadier Paul Otieno, the managing director of Kenya Shipyard Limited (KSL) was a key player to the success of this documentary. He was the voice of authority, where we crafted the post production editing around him.
Additionally we interviewed craftsmen to show specialized skillset and how they benefit from working at Kenya Shipyard Limited
My gear of Choice for the interviews was the Canon R5, adapter with 35mm T1.5 Wide Angle XEEN Pro cinema Lens. The XEEN Pro Cinema Lens gave an exceptional image sharpness and amazing blurry background with beautiful bokeh.
I served as the main cinematographer and assistant producer
My responsibility during pre-production as an assistant producer was
Ensure efficient use of production time by filming interviews and B-roll concurrently
Ensure footage archival
Schedule the production time table for the lead producer
My responsibility during production as the cinematographer was
Filming the interviews
Getting aerial B-roll footage using the drone
Ensuring B-roll footage is captured
Proper use and accountability of production equipment
Work with the assistant cinematographer
Here are a few photos of the Kenya Shipyard Limited
A colleague took these photos using the Canon R5 with a 24 - 70mm lens. Three of the photos are from low angle to get the sense of scale and action. The forth photo was taken from the captain bridge command post.
I love editing moody black and white photography. The moody aspect comes by slightly raising the blacks, adding a gradient filter on the sky to bring out that drama and finally add a vignette to all the photos.
