" Time is the fire in which we burn"This poster is dedicated to the memory of the Armenian villagers of Musa Dagh who resisted Turkish regular army for 40 days until they were resqued by the French Navy. The boy in the photograph was one of the survivors of that struggle. He eventually made it to Beirut, Lebanon.1.5 million Armenians perished in the first genocide of the XX century. We still struggle to have it recognized.
I took this photograph during the annual commemoration of the Armenian genocide on April 24th. Small Armenian community in Assen, Holland decided to errect a monument to commemorate the Armenians perished in the Ottoman Empire during 1915-1923. It stirred a controversy, threats and blackmail by the Turks in Holland. This woman is over 95 years old. She was a child during the genocide and she made it.
The caption says: " There were no concentration camps in 1915. There was the Syrian desert. 91 years passed since the Armenian Genocide. We still struggle to have it recognized".
