Dunstan Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Packaging
The outer packaging of the whisky is styled on the unusual shape of the lighthouse with a large sturdy square base leading up to the domed light at the top. A black on black spot varnish is used to give the idea of using the light as a tool to read the box, because the information can only be read when it is held at the right angle towards the light. The use of the spot varnish and silver print creates a contemporary elegance style that engages the younger, trendy target market and they will be drawn to the minimal design elements and colours.
The secondary packaging of the wrap creates a pause and a moment of anticipation when the consumer is interacting with the product and reveals the brand tag line. Delaying the instant gratification of the consumer leads to a stronger brand impression by creating a memorable sense of heightened suspense from an otherwise mundane process.
The bottle is based on the shape of the domed top of the lighthouse. The majority of the information on the bottle is embossed, again playing on the idea of the use of light to be able to read the type. The base of the bottles neck has a circle of glass nodules on it, a visual reference to the ‘necklace of light’ that the Stevensons created around the scottish coast. The bottles are all hand numbered, this gives the bottle more individuality and also confirms the hand bottled and hand crafted ethos of the whisky and the authenticity that it was created in the lighthouse itself.
