The Theory of the Anti-hero

I'm not saying that I’m biased, but I have to say the greatest examples of villains and heroes characters are from the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul universes.

The most memorable scene that reflects on morals and value in the dark side is from S1, E9: Pimento in Better Call Saul.

Mike: "If you're going to be a criminal, do your homework!"

Daniel: "Wait..I’m not a bad guy!"
Mike: "I never said you are a bad guy; I said you are a criminal."

Daniel: "What’s the difference?"

Mike: "I knew good criminals, bad cops, bad priests, humble thieves—you could be on one side of the law or the other. But when you make a deal with somebody, you keep your words. Good or bad criminal, you decided which you are."

Most screenplays would base characters ideologically on realistic human behaviors. According to Wright's perspective on creative creators, there is a separation between real life and the novel. "In life meaning is problematic; in the narrative it is not." (Will Wright 1977) Pictures were mostly influenced by reality, but they did become a medium that was used to create culture as well. The objectives of the characters in the film were adjusted from fiction to life. In Silence of the Lambs, the creator shocked the audience with a believable hero and an unbelievable villain. The obscene were showing the dark side of mankind that could shock the world.
This literature review would discuss an understanding of hero and villain in 20th-century film. Cops in movies are obsessed with vengeance and capturing the bad guys. The man in uniform with a license to kill for the purpose of protecting the working class community In 20th-century film, most cops were presented as being pitted against discrimination from the rich and criminal class. Most plot structures would place cops as the heroes of hardworking blue-collar workers, however, in Neal King’s research of films from 1980–1997.

The elements of the cops would depend on the structures of the film:

The first type of cop hero in the film is the white lion, who is the protector and is placed at the top of the food chain.

The second type is the hateful hero, who is being placed as a villain character instead of a hero.

The third type is the high-status cops that are leaching on corruption and declining morality or justice. (Neal King 1999)

Mike's character covered all 3 aspects, but in different periods of time. Mike was originally a corrupt cop in his past, but there were also certain aspects of him protecting and saving others. When he started working with Gus, things went wrong, and there is no second chance..Mike, who sees himself as above his old past, has chosen to become a hateful hero to prove to Gus that he won’t make the same mistake again.

But hey, you know what is criminally unjustified? That Better Call Saul finale didn't win the Golden Globe Awards, unjustly! Completely unjust!! The villains here are the judges panel.
