Mozambique Fashion Week
Inspired by Africa. Inspired by you.
The Mozambique FashionWeek is set to happen every year in December. In 2010 we were challenged tocreate a campaign aiming to value local customs. In order to achieve that, theevent had to show relevance in promoting the African culture, moreover, it hadto embrace the whole Mozambican community and somehow cause an immediateidentification, by recognising themselves within this campaign.
Under the concept of “Inspiredin Africa, Inspired by you” we have created situations which expressedindividual’s everyday life styles and related it to the way it affects andinspires fashion trends in Africa. As a way to better illustrate thosesituations we invited a street Mozambican artist to amaze us with his peculiartechnique: the Batik.
The batik technique consists of a successive dyeing of the fabric, by protecting the areas alreadypainted or the different colours with layers of melted paraffin. The artistmanaged to astonish the spectators in a very positive and original way, whichgenerated a rich and satisfying effect.
The campaign gained avery good reputation and appreciation from the Mozambicans. This feat waspositively commented on various social networks, and in many national andinternational fashion blogs.
