Hacked and Damaged Magazine Spread (Concept)

Cover
Hacked and Damaged is an article by Russ Banham. It is about how cyberattacks have become a global security threat and can heavily damage national infrastructure. Hackers have taken to spear-fishing recently where they ask for a high sum in return for repairing an organization’s damaged systems and networks. The insurance industry has the most to lose as cyber attacks evolve because they sell a lot of products that are usually taken during cyber attacks.

I created a magazine spread for the article. The design is harsh and tech-like. The cover features distressed keys that spell out hacked and damaged to convey how destructive these attacks are. The Cy typeface's irregular and inconsistent letters convey a distressing feeling that an attack would give to a company. There is node motif in yellow throughout the spread to resemble technology. The bar graph has the bars made up of the name of the company to communicate data that is being breeched. The color scheme of yellow, blue, gray, and black convey the cold feeling of being attacked and technology in general. The contrast of the yellow also communicates the warning pop-up that appears when something goes wrong online.
