The 12th Doctor Timeline
The Doctor Who universe is an endless adventure and exploration for its fans. The complexity and richness of this universe have inspired various disciplines of art. I also wanted to contribute to this inspiring universe and created my work, "The 12th Doctor's Timeline."
I created my work using the ink technique applied on paper, and it is folded accordion-style, reaching an impressive length when opened. By drawing with black ink on white paper, I tried to reflect the complexity of the Doctor's timeline and his inner world. Then, I digitized this work and turned it into a moving animation.
This work is also an expression of my admiration for an unforgettable episode in which Peter Capaldi played the Doctor character. A reference to the Grimm Brothers' "The Shepherd Boy" tale inspired me. This well-known tale has inspired many cultures and popular culture products. The story depicts a character's journey to accomplish an impossible and challenging task to answer a simple question.
In brief, the tale is about a shepherd's son who has to explain the concept of infinity to an emperor. The emperor asks the shepherd's son, "How many seconds are there in infinity?" To answer this question, the shepherd's son says that the first second of time passes when a bird consumes the entire diamond mountain in a place made of pure diamond. This bird that appears once in every century and the diamond mountain made of pure diamond is a symbol of the importance of the concept of time. To accomplish this task, the shepherd's son has to use his own courage and intelligence to overcome difficult obstacles.
In Doctor Who's "Heaven Sent" episode, the Doctor character also has to control the flow of time alone in a labyrinth. Like in "The Shepherd Boy" tale, the character's intelligence and courage play an important role, and he successfully completes this challenging task.
This work is not just a drawing but also a manifesto of art. The work titled "The 12th Doctor's Timeline" shows the power of art by emphasizing the complexity of an individual's inner world, the courage and intelligence required to overcome challenging obstacles. Additionally, as in "The Shepherd Boy" tale, we see the Doctor character in the "Heaven Sent" episode having to control the flow of time. The references between these two stories make the work more meaningful and creative.
I hope that this work will inspire not only Doctor Who fans but also art lovers. I believe that art not only tells the complexity of stories and characters but also helps to push creativity by bringing different disciplines together. In conclusion, "The 12th Doctor's Timeline" work is not only a creation of a Doctor Who fan's creativity, but also reflects the power of art and the power of stories.
