The phrase that constitutes the title for this body of work, “while white write”, exemplifies the inherent relationship between humanity and technology, or similarly, between the material world and the digital world. This phrase is a line of code that describes the computer’s process of “drawing”: while the screen is white, write a pixel. The human analogy for drawing would be: “while the canvas is blank, apply material”.
I explore this inherent connection between the two worlds through language and space. People communicate with words, to which they ascribe meaning. The digital entities also communicate, but through computer code, which resembles the language that humans use. I delve into these two related modes of communicate to expose each one’s idiosyncrasies.
I also investigate materiality in a digital space. Humans live in three dimensional space, whereas digital objects live in a fictional, abstract space (that can sometimes look three dimensional). I question whether we can reconcile these spaces in a way where material objects could become part of the digital space.
