Booklet Mockup: Front cover and page 1 (top), inside back cover plus its facing page, and a middle section 2-page spread -- respectively.
Introduction
My name is Shawnie Cannon and I'm currently a student at BYU-Idaho. The gift booklet project pictured above is an assignment from the Art 230 Typography class taught by professor Kyle Iman. This project has helped me learn a lot more about Adobe InDesign.
This project utilized grids and guides, paragraph styles, character styles, baselines, 9-square grid format, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Color, and Photoshop.
Project Description
A) Pick a recent General Conference talk. B) Create a 7' x 10' gift booklet using only typography. C) One picture of the author is allowed.
Chosen talk: "Seeing More of Jesus Christ In Our Lives" by Tracy Y. Browning
Elements: This booklet has wide outer margins, and strategically placed pull quotes and highlighted keywords. Every page is an easy-read in 12-pt font and 16-pt leading. The typeface family for the paragraphs and main content is Trade Gothic Pro (regular and bold). The quotes and italics are in Baskerville MT Pro Italic.
Individual Pages:
Pages 2-5
Pages 6-9
Additional color experiments:
I enjoyed this project immensely and plan to do President Nelson's April 2023 talk, "Peacemakers Needed." Typography and graphic design are wonderful art forms.
