Afiche para Newroz

Newroz has been celebrated as the first day of spring in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and other regions for over 3,000 years. It's a celebration of the new year as a beginning and blooming. People clean their houses beforehand, jump over fire to cleanse themselves from evil eyes and spirits.

Traditionally Iranians gather around a “Haft-Sean Table” (Seven things whose fist letters start with “S” letter which is the traditional table set to bring fortune in the New Year and welcome the new beginnings of spring.

Sabzeh (grass): a reminder of nature and symbolizes rebirth, renewal and growth having left behind a period of inaction in the winter.
Samanu (sweet pudding made from wheat) symbolizing affluence
Senjed (dried fruit of the oleaster tree) for love
Seer (garlic) as medicine to keep evil spirits away
Seeb (apple) for health and beauty
Somaq (sumac) as the color of sunrise
Serkeh (vinegar) for patience and longevity
Moreover, on the “Haft-Seen,” table, many people decorate colorful eggs for good luck and fertility.
This year, Give Something Back to Berlin is joining in, and we are thrilled to design the poster for the event!
