Cocoonnected: An Exhibit

First sketch for the exhibit. I wanted to give the user the feeling of being in a cocoon in order to communicate the idea of connectedness.
The exhibit hung from a classroom ceiling at Gulfstream (SCAD) for a couple of weeks.
Cocoonnected had a numbering system and directions on how to review it.
The structure was made from reclaimed MDF and lasered in our Digilab. I used paper to cover the inside. I chose white to create a subtle palette.
The counters (leftover from the lasering) from the exterior became part of a numbering system.
Cocoonected had six panels. The first marked the begginning and end of the exhibition, since it was circular in fashion.
The right-hand panel opened to reveal a how-to connect to the exhibit. It explained, amongst other, the presence of QR Codes, audio cards and stickers.
To create a visual explation of the cascading effect of just one customer a pop-up effect was created upon opening a flap. Behind it, more information and a QR code that linked to a video.
This panel was one of two that used a sensor (the kind that comes with sound greeting cards) to reproduce information about the concept. A QR Code took the user to a video for more information.
I chose to use old illustrations in one color as a style. I links to the image of encyclopedias using this kind of illustrations instead of photography, to keep the concept from being too linked to the specifics of the photo.
For this panel I used a clean an minimal paper engineering element that looks like a city.
