This is a 8.5 by 11 inch newsletter/self-mailer that I created in my Publication Design class called Recombination. With this project my professor wanted to give us the opportunity to see what doing work for a client can be like. With that being said our professor acted as a client who wanted a newsletter/self-mailer created for the UCF Biomedical Research Group. The way the client communicated and gave information was all through email.
Although it may sound straight forward the client gave assets for the newsletter in an unorganized manner, needed lots of proofing to all the information within the newsletter, and needed a variety of things changed at the last minute. An example of this is when the client sent the UCF logo, it was very pixelated and not the right format; therefore I needed to redo it and vectorize it in Adobe Illustrator.

Another guideline for this project was to use only a total of three Pantone colors. The Pantones I chose to use were Pantone 3025 U, Pantone 7548 U, and Pantone Black U. I chose these colors because it has a formal, appealing feel, and blue is a color of trust and that is very much needed in a medical/research setting. The yellow then acts as a standing element for the DNA helix on various spreads. Each image is also a tritone using the three Pantone colors I've selected. The entire project was made in Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for the images and logo.

Overall, through the communication process and design driven focus it allowed for a successful design and allowed for experience for understanding client oriented work.
