Public Service Announcement Project
In my ART 235 course, we were asked to design three print ad posters that could be used for a Public Service Announcement. We could research and decide on our own non-profit organization that we wanted to support. We were instructed to create posters that would promote an important issue or topic that affects individuals and communities. I chose vehicle safety around cyclists. My ads are supposed to encourage drivers to share the road with those that are on bicycles.
DESIGN DECISION #1
I created these posters with the design idea to hide a bicycle on the side of a car, thus getting my message across that cyclists are hidden and hard to see. I was able to find pictures of vehicles and Photoshop a bike frame on top of the photograph.
DESIGN DECISION #2
I paid particular attention to the position of my elements on the posters. I was able to create a readable hierarchy. First, you get the main tagline message and then you see that get more information by reading the statistics, and then finally your eyes follow down to the QR code to receive more information.
DESIGN DECISION #3
My color decisions are based on the fact the colors evoke an emotion from the audience. The colors I chose also create harmony, balance, and consistency among the three posters. They are bright colors to attraction attention and demand attention to the importance of the issue at hand.
CONCLUSION
Overall, my PSA posters turned out better than I thought they would. The process of designing always seems so daunting at the beginning of a project, but when I step back and look at the final results, I'm amazed that I got to this point. That's why the design process is so important to follow. Remember the 4 D's - Define, Discover, Design, and Deliver.
