V&A Its Only Rock & Roll

V&A Its Only Rock & Roll - The Art of Sound - Exhibition Posters

The Brief
You have been commissioned to produce a series of integrated graphic solutions to help identify and promote a major exhibition to be held at The Victoria and Albert Museum in the summer of 2014.

This exhibition examines design for music from multiple angles: from animation to album sleeves; identity to merchandise. This is the first major retrospective on this facsinating a cultrally important phenomonen. The V&A has been given unprecedented access to the design archives of acts as diverse as The Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga. Over 500 objects that include album artwork, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs and artist’s own instruments

My Idea
I wanted to try and capture all different eras and genres of music spanning across the 60 years, so I decided to use a collage effect to capture this, the 3 posters carry 3 different themes, drum for instrumental, record sleeve for merchandise and TV for performance. I wanted there to be a main image as a focal point and I believe this works well, also using the signiture over the top to add a bit more rock and roll to it.

Interactive/ambient media poster, the concept behind this is to try and get the audience to uncover the artist themselves, revealing different genres and different eras the more they tear, this also has a level of exitement along with it.
