Provisional Memories 2023
Archiving Nostalgia

The world is changing faster than before. This ranges from the way that we have lived, to how a pandemic has disrupted the entire world, to changing and resistant perspectives in society today. Is nostalgia a feeling? What makes a home? What makes a place? What are the structures that you grew up with? What physical things tie you to a place? If they disappeared or become unrecognisable, can you still consider that home, and where is home? Can we look at topographies in a more conceptual light, beyond the geographical and physical, to think about how you might map nostalgia?

This project is about how we can initiate a dialogue on the importance of preserving the nostalgia of Mamashops and how they can act as a timeless platform. Provisional Memories provides a multi-sensory experience to access nostalgia through stories, translating spaces of the past beyond geographic locations and objects using the methods and visual treatments of new media such as 3D, Augmented Reality and Bitmapping. Envisioning how nostalgia could potentially inform the future.
