Tristan Tzara's DADA Manifesto

Books for the most part, non or fiction, serious or funny, happy or sad, are a familiar format to look at and to read; words on a page placed in a simple and sophisticated grid, perhaps some pictures for added clarity or pleasure.  There is a formula for setting the layout that works, it gets repeated, and for the most part a book is a book.

My intention when designing a book to display Tristan Tzara’s Dada Manifesto was to break down this normality of storytelling and reinterpret the way that the book was traditionally read.  This approach was intended to be a direct reflection of the foundations laid by Tzara in the manifesto itself.

Cover screen printed on 135gsm Colorplan by GF Smith, in Bright Red, with a clear varnish ink.  All display type elements were created digitally, using real ink prints for the screen printed texture.
