The promotion of IMRAM Irish Language Literature Festival. IMRAM’s message is positive – and places the Irish language and its literature at the heart of public life within a modern, energetic and multicultural framework.
I chose the poem ‘Yarn’ by Nuala Ní Chonchúir for the visualization on a billboard. The poem is the words of a woman comparing herself to Ariadne, the Greek goddess, who, according to the myth, helped Theseus to defeat Minotaur. Ariadne helped him by giving him a sword and a ball of yarn, so that he could find his way out of the Minotaur’s labyrinth following the thread. I based my design on the quote from the poem “Is mise d’Ariadne, lig dom” which means “Let me be your Ariadne”. I used a yarn to write the words from the poem as it signifies the connection reflected in the poem. Also the essence of the written words is similar to the yarn in the myth - to guide the people. The heroine uses the yarn and Ariadne metaphors to reveal her feelings and express her wish to help her beloved.

my fingers fixed
to one end
of an untwining
ball of yarn
that your hands hold.
I will guide you
through the labyrinth,
tunnels, all of your
dark places,
pulling you safe
towards me
and the light.
