IndiAfrica Poster - "My City"

A poster designed for the 2014 IndiAfrica Poster competiton

~ top 50 finalist
My final design highlights moments captured in my city through the eyes of our vast nation. I wanted to capture different emotions of different people who were all attending an event. I didn't want photographs that were posed and so I decided to capture the moments that are hardly captured on camera. Therefore, I combined my photography skills with my design skills. I chose to exhibit these moments in the silhouette of a human body to emphasise the fact that if placed together, no matter how different we each may be, we are still one solid nation that is alive with passion, happiness and dreams.

Johannesburg or the Witwatersrand (as it was previously known) is well known for the "Golden Arc" that made it famous for the discovery of gold underground, which lead to vast mining developments and great wealth. My poster is about "My City. My Friend." and suggests the golden arc on the poster is representative of the people of my city, who are the actual gold pieces that make the city rich with diversity, personality and friendship. Friendship, love and true emotion is more valuable to a city that all the riches in the world. It is the people in my city who make the city prosperous.
