Säuli Solidaritätskasse

Charity made easy
Poverty is closer than it seems. In 2020, 8.5% of the Swiss population was affected by income poverty, according to the Federal Statistical Office of Switzerland. That's why we concepted Säuli, a digital collective piggy bank.

With Säuli, customers can donate or let Säuli cover their small shortage to pay for their groceries. This benefits those in need, reduces the workload for staff members, spares time-consuming cancellations and returns of products, and even reduces food waste.
Here is a short documentation of a concept evolved by Yana Seiter, Tobias Beck, Oleg Mikhailov, Masha Rodigina and Jens Hassler during two days of the hackathon BaselHack 2022.
Concept of integration
After considering all the possibilities of Säuli integration into payment methods available in Switzerland, we chose the easiest and most secure one — to integrate Säuli as a function into the interface of a self-checkout.

Advantages of the integration into a self-checkout machine:
— data security lies in the hands of a local supermarket
— no new app is needed as only one button is added to the existing interface

Code
As I can't say much about the code I leave here a link to the GitHub repository of the project: https://github.com/bseity/Saeuli
A PIG LoGO SYMBOL
I made a cute and minimalistic illustration of a piglet as a logo to support the friendy and helpful character of a project. My sister Gulja Rodigina did the piglet animation, Oleg Mikhailov did the typography animation.
