Beauty, grace and completion have always been twining around as descriptions for the finest of all precious stones: the diamond. Looking at the reports on design grids and visual systems there is one grid corresponding to these descriptions: there is mention of the golden selection.
Discovered by Euclid (300 AD) in the ancient world and completed with the Fibonacci number by Leonardo Fibonacci the golden selection has increasingly become what it is today. It is – following the diamond – regarded as completion and expression of beauty in imaging. Many well-known works, such as The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci or Abrecht Dürer’s chalcography Melencolia I, are based on this ideal.
In this work the two ideals diamond and golden selection have been connected to a unique and elegant whole. This combination creates a pleasant harmony.
The task of this work was to create a branding for the fictitious diamond manufacturer “Adamas” (adamas: Latin for diamond). The golden selection with the Fibonacci number are serving as grid for the generation of the design.
