'Picture To Burn'

To mark the beginning of Kismet Studio we created an album of the members best-loved musical tracks. We had to chose a single track and create 125mm x 125mm spread, to use as the CD cover. We had to use a line or phrase from the song in the design, black & white only and make it suitable for screen printing. The song I choose was 'Picture to burn' - Taylor swift.

For me this song represents the burning of old bridges and the symbolism of a new beginning. In todays society young women are pressurised into having perfect hair, perfect bodies and even 'perfect' relationships that we create this fantasy surrounding an individual and compromise who we are without realising it, which ultimately is damaging us.  Much like the 1960's burning of the bras, this piece depicts liberation from the oppression of the male patriarchy - to unbinding yourself from the constrictions that you set yourself to maintain this false ’ideal’.
