Reboot Pods - Phygital Service Design

Theme - Workplace Recovery

Project Title - Reboot Pods
Phygital (Morgan, n.d.) experience design

Reboot pods is a service design solution that helps the wellbeing at workplaces. It is a phygital (physical + digital) experience that enhances productivity by relaxing you. The pod encourages physical movements through interactive fun activities, that augments sound which helps for mental peace. The floors and walls of the pods are digitally enabled interactive surfaces that convert touch into energy (Michele Debczak, 2016). This concept enables an incentivized solution that makes the service more worthwhile. At the end of the experience, one can collect the points gained from the movement inside, in terms of energy or currency. The same can be used to charge the vehicle or any device, or the currency for any expenses. Thus, the design intervention also potentially solves the transit cost issue.

RESEARCH - AFFINITY MAPPING
Prior to COVID-19, the most significant disruptions to work included new technology and expanding trade linkages. For the first time, COVID-19 has prioritised the physical component of work. (Lund et al., 2021).
Even if some workers will want for the restoration of in-person social interactions at work, they have become accustomed to the freedom that comes with working virtually—from having less time to travel to having more time with loved ones and pets. Being together is important when activities are interconnected, exchanging tacit information in fluid ways is required, and coordination requirements are not scripted or predictable. Pre-pandemic research and recent studies conducted during lockdown demonstrate that individuals allocated to work-from-home conditions experience a significant rise in loneliness. Aside from the human cost, loneliness increases employee fatigue, attrition, and disengagement. And, contrary to popular belief, improved technology does not increase a sense of closeness, and in many cases has the opposite impact when used as a substitute (Gerdeman, 2021).
