Walking the dog without a dog

Walking the dog without a dog
My story is a kind of double metaphor. I have no dog but need to go out to see the splendour of the evening and to inhale some fresh air.

The camera is my dog. At the same time, the camera also captures the grace and beauty of the city which is overwhelming and distracting. I wonder if anyone has read Susan Sontag’s On Photography and pointed out the double metaphor in this line: “The secret of photography...is that you don't have to say what you're saying.”

I started to see that the camera was a kind of pet that could be trained to follow my footsteps and lead me around, and that it could give me a sense of the streets I was traversing.

I felt that I was taking a bit of the streets with me and that the streets were bringing some of their own colour and texture to my visit. It made me want to keep on taking my camera out.

Thanks for your visit
