The northern region of Bangladesh is characterized by vast open land and settlements with enclosed courtyards. From historical timeline, spatial planning of a Public Space has always been executed centering the most prominent function, the Heart of the Place. This feature is still visible in the traditional heritage buildings of greater Rangpur region.
So, the main idea is to bring the essence of northern Bangladesh's traditional charm and rich heritage while maintaining contemporary needs. From ancient times to the present, the degree of enclosure in public space has evolved over time. In this case, 'time' can be imagined as 'speed,' which shifted the degree of enclosure, adding visibility and increasing permeability to enclosed spaces.
On the other hand, the site is located 14 km away from the main Rangpur city where the current city is expanding. There is a huge scope to engage people of different age, income groups through this project. Here, the project can be imagined as the heart of gathering for the new growing city.
Taking everything into account, the major concept behind this design is to ‘Create a sense of enclosure which can contain human activity.’
