Corporate Gift 
The Industrial Design Department would like to offer a unique gift to sell to a client, employee or partner. The product will reflect a companies brand, be practical, aesthetically pleasing and be batch producible within the university's facilities. The product is designed with the design for innovation framework, it will aim to be desirable, feasible and viable.











I have decided to use Laser cutting as my manufacturing process in order to achieve precision cut pieces, and because this will be faster than cutting by hand. With this consideration in mind I further explore forms that could fit this, at this point I have obtained LED strip lights and begin to develop a configuration that suits that. On a functional and technical level, I explore how the chord can be threaded through the body internally and fit the electronic components, as well as how the LED will fit in, all while keeping a minimal and unique aesthetic. I realise that with laser cutting I am able to fit an internal recess and holes for the electronic components by stacking layers together.  The final model's form solves the challenges of fitting the LED and provides enough space for internal components    

At first I use one segment of a 12v RGB LED strip for the lamp, and design the lamp accordingly. RGB LEDs require a driver chip which is connected to the led strip and this driver chip has a 2.1mm female jack which needs to be connected to a 12v plug adapter.

After research and testing I learn that warm and cool white led strips do not require a driver, so the configuration is easier, more flexible and any wires can be threaded through the body of the lamp after it is glued and assembled, as opposed to the RGB model which requires it to be fitted during the gluing process. 
Therefore I suggest using a single segment of warm or cool white 5v LED strip connected to a 2.1mm female jack, which can be connected to a 2.1mm male jack to usb, this will allow the lamp to be connected to a 5v phone charger and be powered.
