My Things : My Memories

This visual material then took the form of two banners (shown on the previous page). At the photo shoot for the first banner the objects were laid like dinosaur bones beneath the ground to show how over time we develop in
not only the material things we collect but also in how we develop as individuals.

The objects also portray a strong sense of personality. The other banner exists as a diagram of this visual heap to not only confirm what each object is but give honest insight into the story behind it’s existence. The more
important objects have a longer description as they hold a stronger memory.

With these two made the project still had more potential with the initial ideas without the project getting too big. The concept needed to move more towards graphic design and so the solution was to portray the whole concept as a hoax exhibition.

This allowed the other ideas to be explored by using fictional artists each looking at an aspect of identity; changing your identity, losing you possessions, losing your memory etc. This exhibition guide then had it’s own identity through typefaces and two specific Pantone colours which could then be applied to the banners. As identity was the central subject it was then applied to self promotion including curriculum vitae and business cards. This tied the concept together bringing the whole experience to a stronger conclusion.

The final piece in the jigsaw was the center piece for the project to draw interest. After many phone calls this took the form of a 2 metre tall tube containing the objects from the first banners starting with a child’s ‘Blanket’ to a ‘Mobile’ phone, showing the development of ‘comfort’ through material possessions.
