Vector Watch Case Study

Realist Vector Watch Case Study
When starting this case study I didn’t yet understand the time, effort, and hard work that would follow. However, in the end, I am really pleased with my watch and how I was able to capture something so realistic into a vector object. The original concept and objective of this project were to create a realistic-looking watch. The goal was to finish the watch in about 40 hours and use a reference image to properly help observe depth and texture. When picking my watch out I tried to choose something I knew would be hard and challenge me but also choose something I that had interesting an interesting design to emulate.

After choosing which watch I would emulate I started sketching. This was a way to start visualizing and problem-solving different surfaces, textures, and depths. Sketches such as 20 and 13 really helped me be able to understand the shapes and reflections that would be found in the final watch's design. I felt that many of my initial sketches were very successful but continued sketching along the way to help solve any necessary problems.
Sketches
Included here I also have my first draft of the watch. At this point, I was getting a little sick of doing the watch band and still felt I had a long way to go. Some feedback I received at the time was to make sure my shapes were exact and not hand done, fix the side nobs gradient to feel more true to life and less like an illustrator tool, and pay attention to the shape's shadows and highlights to make throughout the watch. I took all of this and went to work I made sure to use the align panel more, I completely redid the gradients in the nobs and instead use a clipping mask and made sure the shapes I used for shadows and highlights correctly represented what was found on the watch.
Draft
I am really proud of how far I have come and how my watch mimics realism. I know that I have created a successful realistic-looking watch and have successfully met all of the required objects of the projects. I can’t wait to take what I have learned from this project and continue to explore its uses in my creative lifestyle and my future creative works.
