On care. A journey into Relational Nature of Artists' Residencies

The design of the On care publication evolved with the changing objectives of the book. Articles that originally intended to describe actual residences, due to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic, had to refer to trips already taken, yet to be planned or imagined. The title pages list all the places mentioned in the articles, with coordinates, and the date the article was written. They are accompanied by information on the distances between destinations. The starting point is always the last locality described in an earlier chapter.It is a mean of giving the reader a sense of traveling in time and space. A map illustrating all possible connections is included at the end of the book.
The On care publication is designed to encourage the reader to sketch, and develop the "exercises" that appear at the ends of the chapters. The editors suggested interpretation of the article's main thoughts at the end of each chapter, which the reader is free to develop. The illustrative material includes scans of items needed for travel, scattered throughout the book in the form of bookmarks, partially obscuring the text. In addition to these, the leading motif is a tumbleweed - a desert plant moving due to the force of the wind, whose larger and smaller fragments are "hidden" between consecutive pages. The whole is complemented by vector drawings that interpret the content.
The book is printed on uncoated paper with three Pantone colors, imitating the natural color of tumbleweed. Instead of a traditional cover, the block is wrapped in a dust jacket that can be unfolded into a poster, illustrating the relationships between the parts of the book in an abstract way. The materials selected and the form of the book are meant to encourage readers to add their own notes.

Projekt publikacji On care ewoluował wraz ze zmieniającymi się założeniami książki. Artykuły, które początkowo miały dotyczyć rzeczywistych rezydencji, w związku z wybuchem pandemii COVID, musiały odnosić się do podróży już odbytych, dopiero planowanych lub wyobrażonych. Na stronach tytułowych wyszczególnione zostały wszystkie miejsca wymienione w artykule, wraz z koordynatami, oraz data napisania artykułu. Towarzyszy im informacja o odległościach pomiędzy poszczególnymi destynacjami. Punktem wyjścia zawsze jest ostatnia miejscowość opisana we wcześniejszym rozdziale. Zabieg ten ma dać czytelnikowi poczucie podróżowania w czasie i przestrzeni. Mapa obrazująca wszystkie możliwe połączenia znajduje się na końcu książki.
Publikacja On care została zaprojektowana tak, żeby zachęcić czytelnika do szkicowania i rozwijania pojawiających się na końcach rozdziałów "ćwiczeń”. Na końcu każdego rozdziału znajduje się proponowana przez redaktora interpretacja treści artykułu, którą czytelnik może dowolnie rozwinąć. Materiałem ilustracyjnym są skany przedmiotów potrzebnych w podróży, rozrzuconych po książce w formie zakładek, częściowo przesłaniających tekst. Oprócz nich wiodący motyw stanowi tumbleweed - pustynna roślina przemieszczająca się pod wpływem wiatru, której większe i mniejsze fragmenty “wsypane” są pomiędzy kolejne karty. Całość uzupełniają wektorowe rysunki interpretujące treść.
Książka drukowana jest na papierze niepowlekanym trzema kolorami Pantone, imitującymi naturalny kolor tumbleweed. Zamiast tradycyjnej okładki blok owinięty jest obwolutą, którą można rozłożyć do plakatu, ilustrującego w sposób abstrakcyjny relacje między częściami książki. Dobrane materiały i forma ksiązki mają zachęcić czytelnika do dodawania własnych notatek i przemyśleń.
