Build Me Like One of Your Presidents

BUILD ME LIKE ONE
OF YOUR PRESIDENTS

(Web Design)
RISD 2022

This project is a parody of the American Presidential Election. It is a visual translation of a poem by Zoe Leonard, I Want a President (1992). It explores a multitude of marginalized identities mentioned in the poem. The users experience the process of building a president based purely on societal roles and slangs. At the end, the users can write a mock acceptance speech and send to the White House as a form of protest.

Characters

The abstracted characters represent the possibilities of a president's image. They serve to dismantle the deep-seated imagery associated with the American presidency.

Customization

After the selection of a desired character, the users start customizing their "presidents" by using labels, roles and even derogatory slangs. This empowering process allows users to claim ownership over labels once used to control and to repress.
