BRIGHT IDEAS
NEON SIGN DESIGN
THE ASSIGNMENT
Design a neon sign / illuminated advertising and place it in a matching environment.
Find, create and edit a matching environment.
Find, create and edit a matching environment.
You use Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere pro etc..) or Blender.
LET'S GET STARTED
I started the assignment by looking for neon signs in my area. I made some pictures and put the best ones in a collage.
After getting some inspiration from the outside world, I got started on a mood board. I did this so that I can decide what vibe I wanted to go for. I chose to style my neon sign in purple/ pink.
DESIGNING
After I made my mood board the sketching could begin. I wanted to sketch an icon and think of a text that would fit it.
When I finished sketching I could start digitalizing. This is where the process gets more interesting.
Here you can see how Frank is digitalized, I did this in Adobe Illustrator. I can now start adding the neon effects in Photoshop.
After adding the colour I put a black background behind Frank's design. The neon becomes much brighter this way.
Here I gave the background a neon effect too. I did this so that it looks like an actual sign. I was really happy with how the design turned out and was still debating wether I should add text or not.
I decided to use text and gave it a slightly different neon color. After adding this in Adobe Illustrator, I cut out the background and started looking for a matching environment for my sign.
Here you can see the sign added in an area I think would've fit with it. After doing this the assignment was completed.
EVALUATION
This assignment is the first one I got in my 3rd semester. It was a smaller assignment that I really enjoyed making. I had some troubles with the programs but figured it out in the end. I also really enjoyed how I could use my own inspiration and research.
