PACIFIC GLOBE THEATRE
MOBILE POP-UP THEATRE
This project aims to explore and develop design concepts to propose options for a mobile theatre created out of shipping containers for the construction of a temporary public auditorium. The concepts produced wil provide extended knowledge and insight into the notion of a ‘theatre’ and how spaces perform within it. Liaising with a client based in New York and design professor Dorita Hannah, this container theatre will be developed through the originary model of Shakespear’s Globe Theatre in London.
The vortex configuration plays as a conceptual expression of dynamics in space. This proposal presents a suggestive dynamic and porous scheme where the shipping containers are diagonally stacked on top of the one another to create a tesselated indoor and outdoor facade.
The steel corrugated walls on each container located on the outer shell of the theatre are partially cut open to allow sun and wind to pass through during the day. A different conversation occurs in the evening as light escapes from the inside out, illumating the theatre by night.
Hyper-graphics posted outside and inside the theatre provides seating indications to aid individuals navigating the space.
