A Type Specimen for the Future

Brief
Design a Type Specimen that showcases at least one font family from each section of Monotype’s chosen new and classic releases. My chosen typefaces were Stempel Garamond and Metro Nova.

Concept
Each variant within a type family, has its own unique personality. What if these typefaces were people? How would they speak? What would they look like? I wanted to play on this idea and humanise the typefaces, displaying their personalities in the way they talk and look on a page.

Solution
Using the idea that each variant within a type family is a person, I have created a small booklet showcasing each typeface in a magazine interview format. Something I have kept in mind throughout the whole process is that I didn’t want to apply an actual image to these ‘type people’, like all books, I wanted the reader to create their own image of what this person may look like. The booklet is double sided with a duo tone leaflet on Monotype's history in the middle.
