Summer Book, a self-published book
for Summer 2022
THE CHALLENGE
I came up with the idea of my own Summer Book last Spring while client work was really calm and I totally enjoyed the process of doing something for myself and my online shop.
The idea was to design a book people could take on holiday with them and interact with it through games, colouring pages, puzzles and crosswords.
It’s been about not only designing the illustrations, but really thinking about the structure, the overall storytelling, coming up with the content, building a layout and topping it with a bunch of illustrations.
THE OUTCOME
As I was designing for Summer, I looked back at my own memories of what vacation used to look like with my family when I was a child. I used to spend Summers at the seaside. My mom would always lie down in the shadow and work on her Settimana Enigmistica (an Italian puzzling periodical) meticulously, carefully. I’ve designed this Summer Book with this memory in mind and it has purposely no index. Just like memories, it is a bit messy in its order. In it you’ll find colouring pages, games, activities and as every respectable Summer magazine: a horoscope.
The Summer Book is A4 size and printed on 135g paper for the inside pages and 300g for the cover. It features 28 pages in color and one A3 poster.
