Thank you note for Milton Glaser.
The art consists of five layers of hand cut paper. They are stacked inside a backlit frame to create depth and an abstract 3D effect.
The story: After visiting Milton Glaser's studio with my class this Spring, we had an assignment to make a thank you note - a typographic exploration with other graphical elements. I had lots of fun with it, and took the project a bit further - after finalizing a digital piece, I broke it down into multiple layers and illuminated the paper with light from behind. The next step was to create a stable light source built-in to the frame - I ended up working with LED strips, soldering together a circuit with a dimmer and switch.
Packaging: To create an interesting visual pattern, I used 2 sheets of partially transparent wraping paper with a weekend arts section of The New York Times layered between them. The paper came from a trip to The New York Times printing facilities this Spring. It has some sentimental value, so using it in such personal project was the right choice for me. Once wrapped, the frame was accompanied with a hand made envelope and a letter with a custom heading - a stamp in white with an embossed effect.
