The nightlife and clubbing scene known to any big city is always filled with an abundance of energetic people, bright lights flashing to the beat of heavy bass music, and the aroma of various types of alcohol and spirits. However one aspect of the nightlife that is always static and neglects to represent what is happening around it is the attire that people wear.
Taking the various elements that make up the nightclub scene I took an observational approach to create a fashion garment that took in the environment around itself and projected back this likeness. This was accomplished through the use of LEDs, acrylic, an accelerometer, and an Arduino board. The acrylic was laser-etched to match various microscopic patterns of Tequila, which is used to refract the light. In addition, the triple axis accelerometer on the dress was used to capture the active motion of the wearer, by detecting their movements, changing the color, pace and pattern of the LEDs.
