The flute 0f Power hails from eastern Nigeria and is often used alongside drums (Igba), Ekwe (the wooden Gong), Ogene (Metal Gong) and Udu (Base liner). This unique musical instrument (Oja) often starts with praise showering on a particular heroic did of someone dead or alive. It will lead the gongs (wooden or metal) and the backup of other instruments. The praised usually are transported to the realms of the spirits and sometime answers to the calls only they can testify hearing.
Oja Ike ….The sound is so intoxicating that even the feeble sometimes find themselves doing things they ordinarily wouldn’t dare.
