Information design is an area of graphic design which has grown in response to information overload and shortened attention spans in today’s society. Weather forecasting is one of the most commonly encountered examples of visualizing complex and massive amounts of data which could be described as a traditional and well developed information design system with a long history.
Signs, symbols and graphic techniques describe the evolution of this specialized area. This report examines weather forecasting to understand how these elements are utilized in different media: newspapers, television and web & mobiles and what the most effective way is to visualize weather according to each medium.
